Hi, I call myself Ignatz after Dan Herriman's character in the old "Krazy Kat" comic strip. I'm 44, father of 3, husband to one, crazy about music and books and food and movies and history and martial arts. I've had some wild and crazy times in my life, and I figure I might as well put in some of my perspective.

I promise not to talk down to anyone or make fun,and I promise not to BS anyone. If you're old enough to ask a frank question, you're old enough to get a frank answer. Oh, and if you ask me a question directly, please be patient. I'll get back to you as soon as I can. My life's a bit hectic. :-)

Im Catholic, and I need to pick a confirmation saint. If you are catholic, I want to know, how did you pick yours? (I know alot of people pick their own names, but there is no saint with my name.)
I want to pick one that has to do with like, anti-war. See, I strongly beleive that killing is never ok for any reason, so there should never be a good reason for war. So basically, when I make my speech the night I get confirmed, I want to present a strong anti-war message to the audience, you know what I mean? (I almost decided not to get confirmed because I'm furious with the hypocracy of catholics that think the War in Iraq is ok.)

So my question is, basicly, what saint should I choose to give my speech about that fits my views well? (link)
St. Martin of Tours. He was a soldier in the Roman army who refused to fight upon his conversion to Christianity. He refused his pay, and asked to be stood in the front line without armor and weapons rather than fight an invading army. The night before the battle, the invading army negotiated a truce.

He was also famous for his courtesy towards his enemies and towards people who would normally be considered heretics, and for finding peaceful solutions to potentially violent situations.

Here's the Catholic Online article about him:
