I'm Crissy!
I've been a featured user 3+ times already.

I'm an artist and photographer. I love makeup, DIY, crocheting, drawing, food, J-horror films & video games.

I've been on AN for 10+ years now. I started this when I was around 14 years old. I'm really open-minded and I usually give more than one option to choose from.:] When you witness a lot of drama from others and experienced it yourself, you pretty much know how to deal with it.

Drop any question in my inbox and I'll answer it the best that I can. You can even email me at crissymaciel@gmail.com! (considering I don't go on this site often.) I DO get email notifications of questions in my inbox though.

I'd like to pick up a craft, but I don't know which one to start with. If you craft, which one did you like better?

I have a little experience with knitting (from when I was a kid), but that probably won't matter much.

I want to pick up a craft as a creative outlet, not necessarily to make practical or wearable things only.

Classes or mentoring isn't an option. I'll be starting out with learning from books only.

With those points in mind, any suggestions? Well-considered responses will be greatly appreciated. =)

I like crocheting because it was easier to learn than knitting. It's easy to make scarves too.

You don't really need books, just search online.

I've used these sites:
http://www.stitchdiva.com/custom.aspx?id=53
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Cottage/3606/tutorialpage.html
http://www.nexstitch.com/Tutorials.html

Youtube also has some stitch videos.

if you can get the slip knot, the chain and single crochet down.. you can make a scarf or a really long chain :P

here's an online community:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=78.0

there's a lot of different crafts. there's also subforums.. with completed projects, questions, etc. so if you're interested in trying something new.. you'll have people to help you get started.

(Rating: 5) Ooo, thank you for the sites! My main apprehension with crochet is whether the various stitches are easy to pick up. Just looking at the diagrams is a bit confusing, but perhaps it's easier when *done*.
