Alright, so, at my school we have a JV/Varsity cheer squad. JV cheers for girls bball team + Varsity cheers for guys bball team. im on the JV team. the coaches said at the beginning of the season that there was NOT going to be a difference in squads they just needed to split it up for games. but then it all started about a month ago when we found out that only Varsity could go to away games, and i was so upset because i signed up for cheerleading for a reason. but, then my coach took me outside in the hallway to tell me that "oh, your better than half he girls in there" "JV was the last one picked..." which really didnt help what so ever. + then it happened tonight at the game we cheered at, we were going to do 2 wicked awesome cheers + then my captains like "NO, LETS SAVE IT FOR VARSITY" then this girl on Varsity says "OH REJECTION [the name of the cheer] IS FOR VARSITY NOT FOR DUMB JV" which really got me po-ed. i have tried everything to tell my coaches, captains + everyone + they wont do anything to change all the unfairness thats going around, so what should i do? anything would be appreciated! anything i could say to them to maybe make them understand. thanks so much!
xoxox.
CHEER DRAMA! Can I just tell you that I know this all too well. On my squad we've had drama of the sort before. Last year I made the JV Cheer Squad, and it was one of the most drama filled times of my life - but once the season was said and done; I got practice.
I think the practice is the most important part about being on a JV Cheer Squad. The Varsity girls won't let you do the cheer huh? Then just rock every other cheer you do - to show the Varsity that you're still amazing - even if you're on JV. Have fun with it. I had some bad times on JV, I was dropped on my back in a stunt twice, and wasn't caught on a pop cradle, but I just stood back up each time and tried it again. When we weren't allowed to do a cheer because "The Varsity hadn't showed it off yet", I just tried my best to rock every other cheer I had. Instead of just cheer leading, I used every game as a practice tool to get better and earn my spot on Varsity. I even had my friends come to games to critique me. And the seniority card - don't let that get to you either, just be the best cheer leader you can be, and have fun with it! Especially if it's your last season cheering, make it a good one!
Honestly - I know the drama is going to be very frustrating at time, but with cheer leading comes drama. I think that as tough as it is to deal with the Varsity because they think they're all that, just try and have fun with JV and take away the most from it that you can.
I'm telling you this because I'VE EXPERIENCED IT. ALL last season I had to deal with Varsity girls giving me a tough time because they thought they were all that and a bag of chips, but I showed them when I made Varsity this year.
I wish you the best of luck, and I'm always here if you want someone to talk or vent to about cheer.
Again, best of luck (:
