My name is Lyndsey and I'm 17 years old. I live in Lexington, South Carolina. I pride myself on being mature for my age with a good head on my shoulders, but I find I can be snippy when I hear something that just hits a nerve. I have a lot of strong opinions and I have no problem arguing them. I'm a very open-minded person and very tolerant of most things.

Immaturity is a big pet peeve of mine, as is self-centered, narrow-minded, and ignorant people. I can be cruel when it comes to these things, but sometimes certain people need to be told their faults. I know mine and I have no problem being confronted with them. If someone has a problem with me, online or in person, I'd rather they tell me and we can resolve the issue in a mature fashion. I won't tell you want to WANT to hear, just what you NEED to hear.

On a less serious note, I'm a laid back person and I enjoy shopping, the internet, and my favorite TV shows (Queer as Folk, The L Word, Friends, American Idol, Will & Grace, House). I don't have a large group of friends, but the ones I have are close and I love them to death. I generally enjoy life, minus the whole school deal. I'm a junior in high school and I can't wait to move on to college. I am an honors student and I hope to go to the University of South Carolina and then eventually into the medical field, possibly psychology.

If you have any questions or want advice, I'm here for ya, babes.

I had my pysical exam thing today and the doctor said that if my period doesn't get regular next year, she would give me the option to take birth control pills for a couple of months to regulate it and take me off.

I was wondering if anyone has done that and how long it takes for someone's period to become regular. And if I should or shouldn't. My mom doesn't like the idea but I somewhat do because I always seem to get my surprise periods at the worst times and I'm kind of tired of that.

By the way, I'm 14/f and have had my period for 2 years. (link)
I never really understood why parents didn't like the idea of putting their kids on birth control. It has virtually no negative side effects if you get a good one. Most of my friends are on it to regulate their periods and nothing has happened because of it.

But anyways, I'm on birth control for the same reason now and as soon as I started taking it, it became regular. It's awesome. I've never heard of only keeping someone on the pill for a few months though...I've continued to take it for almost a year.

It's definitely good for knowing when to expect your period AND if you're going on vacation at the time you're going on the placebo month (when the period starts), you can stop the pills 2 weeks early, get your period, and have it gone and be on the next month of pills by the time you get to the beach or wherever. It's definitely a gift from above. :)
