I am a smoker. I plan to quit.

A high percentage of smokers gain weight when they quit. I am already overweight, and am trying to loose, not gain.

So, my question is this:
What can I do to keep from adding extra pounds?

Please, if you don't have an intelligent answer, don't bother wasting my time and yours.

Thanks (link)
Hey...you know Ive been on the CQ patch now for 8 weeks, I started with 21 mg, now I'm on the 14 mg, then it goes to the 7mg, I tried to quit "COLD TURKEY" that made me irrateable, and "yes" I started to eat more..but what I did, with this patch, when I felt like I wanted to smoke I chewed gum,and I carry a tin of altoids, I started holding my pen in my hand, weird , well It gave my hand something to hold...get it. I started a more intense workout, I developed more things to do, to take up my time...The first week, well let me say I found "will power" I thought I never had, it was tough especially me having this habit for 20yrs..but it was time to quit, it was killing me, ya-know "shortness of breath" no stamina, and the price, ya-know when I started a pack was 1.20, now there 5.00 if this alone isnt a detourant, well nothing will be...just take small steps, "one day at a time" I feel so much better..you will too...Good Luck

Thanks a bunch! It's nice to hear from someone who I know REALLY understands what quitting is like, and what kind of challenge one faces to do so. Those who talk like it should be so easy either don't remember the withdraws or never smoked to begin with. Congrats to you for quitting! I hope your success is a life long one!
