This could mean a few different things.
Usually whenever guys are saying they want to stay single, it might be he's uninterested, sorry. He probably wants to remain single and still play the field, and he's just not crushing on any girls yet. He also just might not feel he's ready for a relationship, and to make that type of commitment to only one person.
But even though he wants to remain single, that still means there's always chance for him to like you and want to date you later on. Just continue talking to him, flirt with him, and send him vibes that you're interested in him and see if he catches up on them and see where it goes from there.
