about

I am counsellor with over 12 years experience specializing in parenting, families, youth and mental health. I answer questions in a blunt and straightforward way so if you are looking for coddling or really touchy feely type advice thats not me I provide real solutions for your problems and concrete suggestions in other words I tell you the plain truth I don't sugarcoat.
I am really worried these days with the easy access to the internet and all the false information that is out there and the fact that people believe it!! So please ask first. I don't claim to have all the answers but I can claim that NOTHING will shock me you can try though :)
I look forward to hearing you thoughts and questions.

General question. I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on the true nature of forgiveness:whether forgiveness is possible, or whether it is a man-made delusion. Any concrete examples are much appreciated.
Personally I am a strong believer that forgivness is possible. Its that forgetting is not possible. For example in my line of work there have been numerous occasions that I have been assaulted sometimes including breaking of bones, now I forgive these kids because violence is often all they know, BUT I never forget that they assaulted me, I keep it in mind and try to make sure that I am never off my guard again.
Forgiveness is a choice not an automatic and it is not a choice that everyone makes.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the personal examples, plus the sidelight on "forgetting". I was raised Catholic, and "forgive AND forget" was a daily mantra at my elementary school: I always felt a failure for not living up tp this ideal. But as your example so clearly and fairly showed, "forgetting" can be both imposssible and undesirable.
