I just got a job as a Hostess at my Aunts Restaurant and I was just curious as to what exactly I would do. Do I greet people? I'm a really friendly person, I just don't know what to say.. I'm sure my Aunt will tell me, but I don't want to say the same thing, all the time, to everyone, I'd like to change it up a bit. (link)

I hostess at a family pizza restaraunt in my town and what you do is gather up the number of menus corrosponding to the number of people that are in the party.
Always ask how many people they have because some of them will have people on the way. Then, ask them smoking or non-smoking. Then go to seat them, but make sure to say (with a smile!) follow me, because some people wait for that as their cue to go to their seat.
As they are getting seated in their booth you may ask them how they are doing this afternoon/evening/morning. But make sure you wait until they are seated until you lay their menus out in front of them.
Then inform them that their server will be right with them, and leave them with a smile. If you want to be different, you could ask how they are, if they liked the weather, or reference to something going on in your town. But keep it short and to the point because there could be people waiting and you don't want to seem intrusive.
