whenever i'm meeting someone i don't know, i have the hardest time keeping a conversation! i'm really outgoing and friendly, but most of the time i just don't know what to talk about and we end up standing there in this awkward silence. any tips / suggestions?? thanks!! (link)

Current events are great, usually everyone has an opinion.
When the winter olympics were going on, I found that just saying "have you been watching the olympics?" was a nice conversation starter. Even people who said they weren't watching would end up saying "I heard that ski person slipped and was on one leg for a few seconds but he made it..I also heard of that woman who celebrated too early before the finish line and someone else won!"
