First, no guys do not like it when friends ask. If you can't go up to him and ask him now then how will you guys talk in a relationship? Second, you shouldn't do it online. He might take it the wrong way, seeing it as a joke or something. Also, it is not personal enough. Trust me...if you ask him face to face it will go a lot better.
