ok so i just started cross country today and it is so hard. ive done track for 3 years but that was nothing compared to this. for 3 hours we just ran! we did about 5 miles. i came in 2nd to last/tied for last every time! ive never been fast but my track coach told me i should give cross country a try. it was SO inspiring and it makes me feel REALLY good but i felt like i was going to throw up the entire time and when we compete against other schools, theres just no way really! should i drop out now before its really a commitment and do winter and/or spring track or should i keep it up and hope/pray to get better?

thanks (link)

I believe you should never quit to a fault. When it comes to your health though and physical signs your body cannot take this or you are almost vomiting it is not right. What the hell is this coach thinking? Three hours of this and sweating in heat without drinks from what you tell me is not right and some parent ought to protest. I am serious, we hear of kids and teens collapsing and in some cases dying because of this 3 hour push for this and that bullcrap from coaches who do not see how dangerous this scenario is especially for lesser or non-conditioned folk.

My advice back out of this one and no matter what if you cannot take three hours flipping say so as should your friends and everyone QUIT ON HIM when tired and get drinks. Be vocal each one of you and you can actually tell a teacher, prof, coach NO when you feel you cannot do something and if an explanation is needed explain but nobody come detention or not can force you to push yourself or health to the breaking point for a stupid race or
athletic class. Either drop them as a course or drop them in public when you feel people have had enough and need water.
