About mylinhthan

[x][edit] - Since being on Advicenators there have been a lot of repetitive questions and innane ones at that. Because of this, I will not be answering as many questions as I had before. To put it simply, some people need to think for themselves. To learn things in life we have to fall down from our hardships, learn from them, and get to our feet again. People aren't just going to spoonfeed you on how to live your life.

To conclude, I'm a level-minded columnist who's not likely to judge. Although I may not understand some situations due to lack of experience, I am an understanding person and will do all I can to help. To people who are "not the brightest crayon in the box", I may appear blunt and brutally honest. Stupid questions deserve stupid answers.

And yes, stupid questions DO exist.

I just got hired to work in a store, and I am really excited about this! However, at the orientation we watched these movies & one was about people who steal clothes professionaly. While I was wathcing it, I was like okay, whteer it's not going to happen to me while I am there. But then the managers started talking about how they use to work at the same store in a different town & they have had people like that before, and that those people are starting to catch on that a new store is open! They said they have even seen a few of them walk in before. I know the movie told us what we should do...go up to the person you suspect, ask if they need help, and then don't take your eyes of the front. But then there are these people who come in to distract you, so it said to make sure you get someone else to keep and eye. It also gave these code things you can use. HOWEVER I am so scared this will happen in front of me, and I will either a) not be able to stop it & get in trouble b) accuse someone wrongfully or c) freak out and not know what to do!!!! Has anything like this ever happened to anyone, and if so what did you do? Or if not, any advice on how to act?

anonymous -

I currently work at a department store, and we watched probably the same video.

What we've been told to do are any of these:

1) Dial the surveillance room to keep an eye on the suspicious people.

2) If you think you're being distracted, page another employee to help you watch your area and help one customer while you help the other.

3) Call security to walk around the area to scare off the people if they are there to steal.

These things do work, but trust me, if you get stolen from, it's not your fault. Things like that happen all the time at my store, but sometimes there isn't anything we can really do about it.
