Choosing to come clean and say the truth is always the right choice. While it might be scary,because feelings are going to be hurt, choosing the truth is always right. I think you should just invite him over, or go somewhere where you can both speak in person alont. Notice how I mention in person, the reason why is because things are better done in person and you will seem more mature if you stand up and speak face to face rather than over text or call.
Tell him that your feelings have changed and you don't want to hurt him. While you know that you are going to hurt him by admitting that you are cheating on him, tell him that you no longer can't keep this hidden for respect towards him and your old relationship. Even though you know that what you did was wrong, it's better to end things on good terms by telling him the truth rather than having him find out by another person eventually.
If you are lucky he wont get so hurt to never speak to you again. If he does, then it's better to let him, he has his rights. You chose to cheat on him, and if he decides to take that path you only have the option to accept it. But after a while if he realizes that you can be friends, then accept his friendship and learn from your mistakes.

thank you for the really good advice, but he found out before I could even tell him and my life has been just garbage ever since. I wish I was as mature as you!
