About HyperactiveMiss

Hello!
Ask away! If you'd like to know me better, check out my websites by clicking here and viewing my collective. I always try to give detailed and helpful advice. Please feel free to ask me for advice and DO give me feedback! Reading good comments and knowing that I helped someone out literally puts a smile on my face.

Please be sure to look at the FAQ on my column. If you ask a question similar to one I've already answered, I will most likely reply with the same answer.

Grammar, Punctuation, etc
I think if Advicenators are going to take the time to answer other peoples' questions and give free and helpful advice, the least people could do is use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc when they are asking for help. It's unbelievable how some people TyPe LiKe ThIs, or never use periods, or don't have the time to do a "seempl nd quik speel chek".
Pet Peeve
I think that's totally lame when someone rates you down just because they don't want to accept the truth. It's also annoying if they rate you down, just because they didn't like your answer. Advicenators isn't about hearing what you want to hear. It's about finding the truth. People should be thankful that someone gave their time and effort. They should be thankful their question was even answered at all.
Rating & Feedback
Let me just remind you what each number means when you rate someone. These are OFFICIAL.

1- Pretty Bad Advice 2- Not Harmful, But Not Useful Either 3- Decent Enough Advice 4- Good Advice 5- Really Awesome Advice

I think everyone should give feedback, not just a rating. And feedback should include WHY you gave that person that specific rating. If everyone did that, everyone would probably rate more accurately. Also, the advice giver took the time to answer the question. The least the question asker could do is to give feedback! But unfortunately I guess it's too hard and mind boggling for everyone to do.

  • This is the thing. my friend recently had a cold sore. I've heard that the only way you can have a cold sore (even once) is if you have herpes. Does this mean that she has herpes? Answers would be greatly apreciated. Thanks. Will rate high.

    http://www.mckinley.uiuc.edu/handouts/herpsimp/herpsimp.html

Yes a cold sore is herpes. There's a site with lots of information ^. Cold sores can't be prevented or cured though.

well my page seems to get no one to ask me questions
i really want to give advise on my page.

Obviously no one can ask you for help if they don't know about your column right?

So you can either advertise it on your xanga, myspace, to your friends, etc.

But the most important thing is to answer questions asked on this site and answer them well. If you do that eventually you can be a featured member (lasts for one day) and that definitely gets you lots of people leaving you questions in your inbox. But the main thing about doing this is because when people on this site see you can answer questions and answer them well, they'll want to ask you.

If you REALLY want to give advice, just answer these public questions even if they're not just for you! Just because they're public doesn't mean you can't answer them. The truth is more people will ask public questions rather than ask private columnists. That's because they'll get more answers from a different variety of people.

i was wondering while kissing someone should you have your eyes open or closed? or does it matter?

You can close your eyes or leave them open if you want. Do what you think is comfortable. Also, you might want to see what your partner does so you can go along with it.

Some people say keeping your eyes open can let you see the person's soul.

What I think though is when you keep your eyes open you're not totally focused on the kiss and on the person...would you like your boyfriend/girlfriend to look over your shoulder while you're kissing? lol. Keeping your eyes closed makes you get into the kiss even more.

can someone get AIDS from mosquitos?

Can I get AIDS from mosquitoes, ticks, or other biting insects?

This is probably one of the most commonly asked questions, and the answer is NO. Contrary to belief, mosquitoes, ticks, and other insects that blood cant transmit HIV. Mosquitoes and ticks can only take blood out of someone's body. They can't inject it back in. Basically, if an insect sucked blood from an infected person, they couldn't inject that same blood into your body. Even if they were capable injecting blood, the amount of blood removed by a mosquito is not nearly enough to contain sufficient quantities of the virus to infect anyone.

how do i leave a childish love? im going into eigth grade and i still cant go a day without thinking of a boy from my elementry school who i havent seen in over two years. he was in my class every year and we were always little sweethearts but it was sort of that stupid ittle puppy love junk. i know hes moved on - probably forgot about me, and i wish i could do the same. what should i do?

Dating is all about gaining new experiences, bonding with someone, and finding out what you need and want. If things don't work out you move on and live life. You just have to remember that.

The only way to get over this is to get him out of your mind and realize that it won't work out. Just think...you're almost in 8th grade. So I assume you're about 12-13? The average life span is about 80 years old. Not saying that's how long everyone's going to live, but it's around there. That's a loooong time. You're not even half way there! There's plenty of time to find new boys and find your soul mate.

So to get over it you'll just have to accept it and start keeping an eye open for new guys. There are plenty of fish in the sea!

    Good luck!

EDIT: My gosh. I wasn't saying he was your soul mate. I was just giving you a look at the future so you CAN get him out of your head. Ungrateful.

*well my ex boyfriend is coming over tomarrow and i made him a scrapbook of all our memories cause i want him to know how much i still care about him! he has told me 3 times since we've been broken up he loves me and hes said he misses me all the time! but theres also another girl that he likes and im trying to pretty much win him over..but anyways..i was just wondering if you had any ideas on how i could do like a scavenger hunt kinda thing to lead him to it cause i want this to be special!!! please help asap! thanks!*

Hey there! I hope you do win him over! And if not, don't be sad about it. Dating is all about gaining new experiences, bonding with someone, and finding out what you need and want. If things don't work out you move on and live life. You sound like a very sweet girl, so don't let a guy walk over you.

You can call him, tell him to go to the park (or something, that was just an example) and look for a tree (or something lol) for a note. You could put special items in special places and along with them a note saying where to go next. You could also pick spots where you first met, first kiss, etc. Just remember if they're in different places he may have to walk a lot lol.

You can use candy (like Hersey's Kisses) and tell him to follow those.

You can pluck out flower petals and scatter them (although they might blow away! lol).

You can make lucky paper stars and use those(http://www.geocities.com/mmukhopadhyay/creation/star.html).

I think the park is a nice place to set this kind of thing up. Make sure the ending point is somewhere nice and private in the shade under a tree, or by a stream, or something nice like that!

    Good luck!

i have to pick between two things i reslly love a dog or a laptop what should i choose?

It really depends on you. If it were me I think I'd be leaning over towards getting a laptop or something else other than a dog. Although I've always wanted a dog and my mom won't allow me to have one, I know that it'll be a lot of hard work and attention and during my school year I'm not going to give the doggy what it deserves.

So you just have to think about all the pros and cons and decide yourself. Good luck!

I'm eighteen years old and a high school graduate. I frequently help babysit my younger cousins (ages 2-12) for free or at a low price, and I am fairly used to the quirks, likes and dislikes, of behavior of my relatives.

A family friend has asked me to babysit their 7 (I think 7) year old son for about eight hours this Thursday (I write this on Sunday). I like the kid and he seems to hero-worship me, so I'm fairly certain I'm going to accept. However, he has a reputation for wild behavior, so I am going in guarded.

My problem is, while I've played with him and helped to babysit him before, I've never been the primary babysitter. While my mother will be home that day, I really want to be as self-sufficient as possible.

So, I was looking for some pointers for babysitting non-family. I'm thinking that I'll start him out on cartoons, since he'll be arriving at my house about seven, and break up the rest of the day with semi-healthy snacks every 2-3 hours, and blocks of toys, drawing, and video games. Movies if I get REALLY desperate.

If you could give me tips, crisis management techniques, and ideas for free or low-cost crafts and games, I would greatly appreciate it. Movie rental suggestions are also welcome, although my budget is very small, and my selection is limited to a single small store.

Sounds like you've got a great plan! I've never babysat by myself before so I can't help you much, but here are some craft sites just in case you need ideas for crafts. Sorry if I wasn't much of help!

I'm not too confident with walking up to people and starting conversation...
What would be some good opening points/questions for talking to people? Of around my own age (16/17) (college people) or older? (work collegues)

    Any suggestions?

You could see if you know anything about them. By that I don't mean be a stalker, lol. Just see if they're holding a book, or if they're wearing this or that, you know that kind of stuff. That'll help make you strike up a conversation. Or you could ask how long they've been working/schooling there. If you're eating lunch or at the library ask if you can sit with them. Just remember most people are just like you and want to meet new people, but they're just too scared to go for it. Hopefully that'll get the confidence going and hopefully you'll make some new friends ;)

Ok..I have reeeally curly hair. I want it to be straight but when I try to straighten it there are 2 problems:
    1. It takes me 1 and a half to 2 hours to get it completely straight.
    2. My hair only stays straight for a day or overnight..even if I just straightened it.

Are there any easier ways to make my hair straight and make it stay straight for a while?

Thanks ahead of time. I will rate high for helpful answers.

    Sincerely-
    Curly wanting to go straight

If you want REALLY straight hair and you're willing to put time and money into it...I suggest you get a straightening perm. I got one about a year ago and I'm loving it! Read on if you're interested.

I straighten my hair chemically. Lucky for me though, my mom is a hair stylist. So for me, it's technically free. lol. So I can't really help you on the price, but I would say it costs more than a hundred dollars (professionally done). My mom did the straightening perm. on her last client for like 200-300 dollars. It might be cheaper elsewhere since my mom charges more because she doesn't like straightening hair (too much work).

I definitely do not recommend you to do it at home. Most likely if you have someone else do it for you at home, the product will be really bad for your hair, and the person doing your hair might screw it up accidentally. It's best to have someone professional do your hair with professional products, that way you'll avoid problems and it won't totally kill your hair. Trust me, it won't kill your hair if you get it professionally done with professional products. If you can't tell by now, I keep emphasizing that part. My hair is long, super straight, shiny, and healthy! So that's why I keep emphasizing that.

About how long it lasts...it depends on how curly/wavy your hair is and what product you're using. For me it took more than four hours, and my hair isn't that bad, just puffy and kinda wavy. For me, I had lots of sitting around and waiting time. So it might be a good idea to look at magazines or a book.

If you get it done professionally, it shouldn't hurt. It might burn or itch a little, but you'll barely notice it. Your hair stylist will probably check on you to see if you feel any burning or itching, so just be sure to let them know what you're feeling. The chemicals might make your hair a little lighter, if you don't mind. Mine used to be like jet black, and now it's kinda dark brown. I don't mind though, I think it's cool lol. You can see my picture on my advice column.

Oh yeah, and I almost forgot. I get my hair retouched every six months. Six months doesn't sound that great, but compared to having to use a straightener and blow drying my hair every day...six months is awesome! The perm will last forever, but of course, you need to get it retouched because your hair keeps on growing out ;p

If you're not willing to do that I'm sure someone else will suggest other ways to keep your hair straight.

Hope your hair turns out great!

I've been reading this site for awhile now and up until I got to this site, I never realized the magnitude of idiots cutting themselves.

What the hell is the allure of slicing metal, glass or whatever into your skin?

"Oh god, life sucks, and I feel so bad. What should I do?"

Its like the people here take half of the advice here seriously and because they can't help themselves through simple problems they do something stupid and nearly suicidal.

"I know what I can do, I can inflict injuries to myself - because a double negative is a positive right? Thats what I learned in English class!"

    Enlighten me?

I never really understood why people hurting themselves made things better either. Some people just have more mental problems than others and any little thing might be a big deal to them. The reason people cut and hurt themselves is because they want to escape the pain. However they don't realize hurting themselves only escapes the pain temporarily. I strongly believe in this quote "suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem" and I just hope more people will realize it. I don't know if I helped, but there you go.

ok i just got back from my 5 day cheer camp and we stunted almost 24/7 and i am really sore! i've taken advil to try to get it to go away but it doesn't seem to be working! i can barely walk and pick things up its so bad! what are some good ways that you guys use to help the soreness go away? thanx!

Do some stretching to stretch out your muscles. Drink lots of water. Put an ice pack on your sores. Take a warm bath. Believe it or not one of the best ways to get rid of your soreness is to keep doing the same exercises (not as hard though, do it at a waaaay lower level) you did that got you sore. Or you can just take a short (15 min ish) walk. Doing this will get your blood pumping which will get nutrients to your muscles and get the stuff that occurs when you exercise out of your muscles.

(I did some research for you on this so don't think I pulled this out of thin air, lol.)

I'm being blammed from my friend that i have been hacking onto her account on another site!well, i'm not!how do i convince her i would never do that to her?

First of all it's spelt as "blamed". Just letting you know.

There's probably no way to convince her if you've tried talking to her already. Maybe you can get her to contact the site administrater and ask him/her if they can check who hacked into her account and prove that it's not you. Good luck!

ok im 13/f and ive never done anything bad but last night me and my boyfriend did a lot of stuff..it felt really gooa at the time but today i dont feel good..is something wrong with me?

You probably don't feel good right now because you're thinking about what happened and maybe you're a bit shocked that it did happen. Maybe you should take it slower and talk to your boyfriend. Don't do things until you're ready (Which means you have to be ready and comfortable at the time and even after it happens). If you're doing anything sexual at least please use protection and get tested regularly (Your parents don't have to know about getting tested; it's confidential!). It's protecting yourself and your partner so don't overlook it.

i have a siriouse case of cancer and need to know what im supposed to do to stay calm!the docter says i may not make it!PLEASE someone help me!!!

You could join a support group or something where you can talk to other people that have cancer. Talk to your friends, family, find someone online. Basically the best way to deal with this is to talk to others. You can't keep it bottled up inside of you. Don't be afraid...I know that sounds impossible but if you conquer your fears you will not be afraid and whatever happens will happen. I wish you the best of luck!

How do u ask a guy out? i really like him, and i kno he likes me, but hez really shy, so i kno he won't ask me out, and boyz alwayz ask me out, so i don't kno how 2 do it myself

Well if boys always ask you out, you should know how to do it. Just think back to how they did it and do it yourself this time.

You could start subtly by asking him to a movie and then ask him later (whenever you feel comfortable) if he'd "go out" with you.

    Here are a few tips:

    - Never get a friend to do it for you.
    - Don't write lame notes. You can write him a note to break the ice, but get him to meet you somewhere so you can ask him directly.
    - Don't do it on the phone or online or etc.
    - Don't be sad if he doesn't feel comfortable dating yet. You said yourself he's shy, so give it some time.
