Sexual Development and Reproduction
When your son or daughter has questions about sexual development and reproduction, where do you want them to look for answers? Their friends? A television show? The Internet? A magazine? Or you?
You want them to come to you. But a lot of parents worry they don't know all the answers - so they don't talk to their son or daughter. This part of the Web site can help you have the answers to your son or daughter's questions. It won't make you an expert. You don't have to be an expert. You just need to talk to your son or daughter early and often, and tell them how you expect them to behave when it comes to sex. It's important that you tell your son or daughter you expect them to wait to have sex, preferably until marriage.
This part of the Web site talks about puberty and reproduction.
All of the topics in this part of the Web site are listed in the gray bar at the left of your screen.

Hi,
I am a 20 year old vigin and i wnated to know
Can you get pregnant the day BEFORE your period starts? My period lasted for 5 days. This incident happened in february. I am asking this as I had a sexual experience where a man put his fingers inside my vagina i am not sure if their was any sperm on them. I have had a pregnancy test done at the family planning and it was negative and I have also done several home pregnancy tests and they were also negative.
Please help I am really worried that the pregnancy tests i have had are wrong

You can get pregnant at anytime sperm comes in contact with your vagina,
I wouldn't worry though, From the way you've explained doesn't sound like he'd have sperm on his hands anywhere.
Hope I helped.

thanks to everyone! (link)
|
Starting with the make-up.
Use a foundation thats most similar to your skin color.
Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks.
Always use chapt stick & a nice cute lip gloss.
* Green eyes - Use brown eye shadow, It defiantly looks the best.
* Blue eyes - Use a purplish, or a silver.
* Brown eyes - Try using a light green with a brown liner.
As for the hair, Straighten it one day of the week, Scrunch it the
next, Wear it in a cute bun, or braid it.
=)
Hope I helped.

Okay. Im fourteen (female) if it helps. Hah,
but Ill be a highschool freshman come this fall.
I have hazel eyes. Bleh. They like to change from blue to green to both with a bit of brown.
Its soo annoying! Especially when it comes to makeup...
I need tips to bring out the color, blue would be best, even though theyre green a lot.
Btw, do hazel eyes change with what you wear, mood, etc? Because I just dont know.
But I like to wear eyeliner a lot, and some neutral shadows as everyone says. But I want COLOR in my eyes and ON THEM! I absolutely love brights. I dont like eye shadow that much, though. It feels cakey.
Any tips, suggestion? Sorry. Thanks! (link)
|
Starting on the blue eye, I'd use a brown eyeliner & Apply something like a purplish
eyeshadow.
I also have green eyes, I use a light brown eyeshadow & a white underneath my eyebrow.
& A dark brown in the crease of my eye, It looks great. =)
I watch shows on make-overs like every single day, I really pay attenion to these things.
If your eyeshadow is feeling a little "cakey", I'd suggest buying another light powdered eye shadow.
Hope I helped.

Okay i got my toenails removed due to ingrown toenails. It kept occuring so the doctor's removed them completely. This is only on my two big toes. My highschool prom is on thursday and i want to wear toeless shoes but am too scared to show off my toes. Is there anything anyone knows of that i can buy, i know you can get fake toenails but they are all put on by glue and are for nail to nail contact it says nothing about skin.
any ideas?
(link)
|
I'd start by calling your nearest nail salon & schedule an appointment to see what
they can do.
If nothing, I'd go to walgreens or walmart, & Purchase some fake toe nails & glue
them out.
Hope I helped.

My boyfriend and I have been trying to have a baby for over a year now. I haven't been on birth control in over a year and he never wears a condom but still, nothing! I'm just wondering for all you mothers out there, is there something we are doing wrong? I've heard you can only get pregnant when an egg releases and that they only release on your period. Does that mean that if we have sex on my period, I'll get pregnant? I don't smoke or drink or anything harmful. I've talked to doctors, but they just gave me vitamins to take. I'm not sure what we're doing wrong =/ Any help please! Thanks in advance. (link)
|
Keep trying & praying, Eventually it'll all work out.
Stress could be the main problem, like everyone is saying.
Don't get to stressed about it, It'll happen when the time is
right.
=)
Hope I helped.
I'm five months pregnant by the way.

i have these red things right bellow my butt..they hurt like pimples and i'm pretty sure they are.
how do you get those? and how can you make them go away!? i don't want to pop them because that would be pretty hard..they're right below my butt! (link)
|
I'd suggest going to the nearest pharmacy, & purchasing some acne cream.
Using it every single night, & Washing it off with a hot wash cloth around ten
minutes later.
Hope I helped.

My mom has stretch marks on her upper, side of her thigh. She says it's because of kids, well duh.
You can see her veins, it's like purple/red lines, but she said they're from having kids.
Then why do I have them? (link)
|
I'm currently five months pregnant at the moment, & I have stretch marks
but you can't see my veins in them, Hers could be like that where she's had
them for a longer period of time though, i'm not sure.. not everyone is the
same.
* What causes stretch marks?
Stretch marks are caused when the skin is stretched to the point of breaking down, similar to elastic losing its' elasticity. Losing collagen and elastin in the skin causes stretch marks, loss of tone, fine lines and wrinkles. When there is a breakdown or loss of elastin and collagen fibers or excessive stretching in the skin, the mark actually shows through to the
epidermis (top layer of skin).
Stretch marks often occur in the normal course of development especially in women. They are frequently aggravated by rapid growth, pregnancy, hormones and some other natural causes. Severe stretch marks can be caused by some medications including steroids such as cortisone. Stretch marks are weaknesses in the supporting structure of the skin causing layers of the skin to separate leaving the skin grooved and discolored. Stretch marks develop when the skin is excessively stretched during pregnancy, weight gain or growth spurts. Dermal collagen is damaged and blood vessel dilation results in the formation of red or purple-colored early stretch marks. Inflammation and collagen remodeling may lead to the loss of pigment-producing melanocyte cells or obscuring of melanin pigment. Over time, this lack of pigment results in the white or hypopigmented scars that most people associate with mature stretch marks.
One theory is that they develop when the skin is stretched to the point of breaking down, due to a dramatic increase in the size of tissue. This stretching of the skin is similar to elastic losing its elasticity. The actual stretch marks develop in the middle, elastic layer of the skin, called the dermis. It is made up of fibers called collagen that allow your skin to stretch and then shrink back into shape. If this layer of skin is continuously stretched over a long period of time, the elasticity breaks down and the skin tries to remedy the problem by increasing the amount of collagen in the over stretched area. This is what then creates the scars in the dermis which show through to the epidermis (top layer of the skin).
The stretching of the skin can come about from rapid weight gain over a short space of time, such as during pregnancy. Stretch marks can also be found on children who have become quickly obese or on adolescents who have had a growth spurt during puberty. Athletes and body builders can also develop stretch marks due to constant repetitive exercises. The most common areas affected by stretch marks are the hips, breasts, buttocks, thighs and abdomen. However, some believe that the term stretch mark is a misnomer and they are not caused by the stretching of the skin at all. It has been suggested that stretch marks are caused due to an increased level of a hormone called glucocorticoids, circulating through the bloodstream. This hormone is secreted by the adrenal glands and it is increased during pregnancy, adolescence, with obesity, Cushing’s disease and weight lifting. The glucocorticoids affect the dermis by preventing the fibroblasts from forming collagen and elastin fibers that are required to keep growing skin taut. Dermal tearing then follows as there is a lack of supportive material when the skin is being stretched. So the stretching may determine where the stretch marks will occur but the actual stretching is not seen as cause of stretch marks. It has also been suggested that some people are more genetically prone to stretch marks than others. Skin type may be a factor; dryer skin has less elasticity than oily skin, and more prone to stretch marks. Stretch marks can also develop more easily in skin with a high proportion of rigid cross-lined collagen that occurs in teenagers.
Another theory on the cause of stretch marks is that they can occur due to the abnormal collagen formation as a result of medications or chemicals that interfere with collagen formation. It is also suggested that some medications that are hormonal or steroid based may cause stretch marks.

15/f
so i started shaving my arms cos they had so much hair on it , it looked gross. but now im getting tired of it and it looks really weird as well. so i thought maybe i can let the hair grow out and bleach it. is that a good idea? and would it harm my skin? (link)
|
I really don't think you should bleach it, Seems like it'd burn or something.
Buy blonde dye, & Use it on your arms & Still continue to shave your arms.
I shaved my arms when I was a lot younger, an I still don't have any arm
hair.
Hope this helps.

is it true that putting vaseline on your eyelashes before bed makes them grow or appear longer? i saw it somewhere and just wondering if anyone has ever heard of it. (link)
|
- I've never even heard of anything like that, I have really short eye lashes & The only thing I've ever heard of making them longer, Using a good eyelash brush, Apply mascara without any clumps, an Use a eyelash curler.
