Chance of Infertility?

Question Posted Monday February 13 2017, 2:31 am

I'm 32, and a little over 11 years ago, my appendix burst
, leaving me with a severe abdominal infection. I received emergency surgery and stayed in the hospital for a week. While I healed nicely and haven't had complications since then, fast forward to today, when the topic of babies and fertility came up. I am worried that the infection could have possibly led to adhesion in my fallopian tubes, which could cause infertility. I was 21 at the time of surgery, and have had regular periods since. I'm at the point where I want to meet someone to settle down with and eventually have kids with. I just don't know what my chances are of achieving the baby part :( I plan to speak wkthu gynecologist at my next appointment, but any information is appreciated.

Xenolan answered Tuesday February 28 2017, 1:37 pm:
Appendicitis can indeed cause infertility. Only your doctor can tell you if this has actually happened, though.

If the Fallopian tubes are compromised, this means that you may not be able to get pregnant the "traditional" way, but medical technology could still potentially give you a hand with it if your eggs are still healthy. So, even if you are technically infertile, don't give up hope; there could still be a way for you to experience pregnancy and childbirth.
