Take your time when shaving, don't rush and don't go too hard. Make sure it's NOT dry (do it in the bath) and use any form of shaving gel (even conditioner) - cold things work better because it soothes at the same time and won't burn. Sharp razors obviously work best.
Afterwards, if necessary, apply a soothing lotion/baby oil/etc to make them smooth. ]
Before you shave make sure you exfoliate the area with body scrub. Now you may have to experiment a bit when it comes to what to shave with. I found cheap conditioner or shampoo works best for me, but others prefer shaving gel or lotion. When shaving I'd recommend a twin blade razor, any more blades and the razor burn is worse in my opinion and a single blade just doesn't get all the hair. Once you're done shaving wash the area well, pat dry, and apply hydrocortizone cream. You can get it at any drugstore for a couple bucks and a generic brand is fine. You can use the cream daily or as needed and you should notice the razor burn is greatly reduced or gone completely. ]
