Caring for an elderly parent. Posted Thursday September 23 2010, 8:53 am
I am taking care of my 86yo. father and he smokes a pack a day of cigarettes. I hate the smell and I don't want them around my 12 yo. daughter (his grandaughter), but he suffers from dimensia and he forgets to not light up in the house and I am afraid of a possible fire risk. He can't drive anymore and I have contemplated just not buying him anymore smokes. But I feel it would be torture for him yet ultimately good for all of us. Should I force him to stop smoking even though he has enjoyed this privaldge all of his life?

My parents won't listen to me! Posted Wednesday September 22 2010, 2:49 am
16/f
My parents will NOT listen to anything I say. They told me my curfew is at 8, right, and I told them that I needed it to be at 9 or 10 because of stuff I want to do and they totally IGNORED me! Then I told them I wanted to go to the beach this summer with my friend and her bf because they're old enough and her parents let her but my parents were like, "No, you'll get into trouble!" and this crap about how a 16 year old girl shouldn't be away from her parents like that. I told them it would make me HAPPY to go to the beach w/them and they were like we'll they would schedule a time to go to the beach as a family and that is NOT what I said! This is stupid because I'm almost grown up and they should let me do what...

My brother hates me:( Posted Monday September 20 2010, 5:27 pm
14/f
I have two older brothers, ones a senior and ones a junior. Me and my brother who is a junior get a long great we have a wonderful relationship. It's my oldest brother who I have the problems with. Ever since we were little he would always be mean to me and being the little girl I was I would tattle on him. Lately, I've been trying to be nicer to him. I know a lot about him that my parents don't. Mainly, his drug and alcohol use. I definately don't think it's the drugs and alcohol that made him this way not at all he always seemed to hate me. On the contrary acutally, he is nicer to me when he is high or drunk. My parents do often get in more bad fights and arguements with him. And I sort of think that he doesn't want to...

I am stuck in the middle of a family feud Posted Friday September 17 2010, 9:24 pm
One of my relatives and the rest of my family have been in a fight for over five years. The relative moved out of town without telling anyone in my family except for me. She wanted me to know where she is if I need her, but for now wishes to have no contact with the rest. However the rest of my family have figured out that she's no longer at her old job. What do I do? I would just stay out of it except that the rest of my family is likely to grill me about her when they come to visit me in a few weeks. It is one of those dysfunctional family things and I can understand the relative's position but I am stuck in an impossible position with her wish that I pretend that I know nothing about where she is.

what do i tell my parents? Posted Friday September 17 2010, 12:46 pm
The thing is, my boyfriend stepdad and mom asked my dad already if i can go with them, but my dad flat out said no, then he turned to me and told me i could start crying because he wasn't gonna let me go. So many things bother me about that, the fact that he answered so rudely and put me on the spot when i wasnt saying anything. I've been with my boyfriend for a year and a half and my family knows his family. so i thought that it might of worked but it didn't. and the problem with talking to my dad is that we dont speak to eachother. Im 18 and i've never talked to him ever, there was one time but he was drunk. do you kind of see where im coming from? My sister says that i should just go. And im thinking about just going because im talking about the person that means the most to me.

An issue I can't fix on my own Posted Wednesday September 15 2010, 9:25 pm
19/f. I am in the University and I still live at home. I stayed at home, and didn't go away, as most people, because my family BEGGED me to stay. At the time of graduation, I had an eating disorder. I was struggling with anorexia and bullemia and eventually with trying to get back to a healthy weight. The day after graduation, my family told me I was adopted. All of this was confirmed true, and I met my birth parents as well. So, it's been a lot. I really didn't have much of a choice as far as whether I could leave or not. They really begged me to stay. I have a scholarship at my school. Not only do I not pay a penny for my University education, I get money back! This is also a really nice University. I would consider myself very fortunate...

Parents Last Will splitting family. Posted Wednesday September 15 2010, 4:21 pm
Dad died in 1998, Mom died last year. The eldest brother in our family of 6 siblings had been named executor of the will. 20 years prior my Father allowed one of my brothers to defer his payment for his purchase of a seashore vacation home ($25000.00) that he owned in partnership with his brother until his estate was settled. Dad's brother was paid in full for his half. Dad did not specify this in the will but took my brother at his word with the understanding of other family members. Now that the estate is being distributed, the seashore house-owning brother is currently claiming the property was a gift and that he owes nothing to his siblings. He is threatening to sue for an equal share of the residual amount of the estate, and he is cast...

My cousin likes me more than a cousin! Posted Wednesday September 15 2010, 1:19 am
I grew up with this one cousin and he's pretty great. We're like best friends but I never thought anything more of that. Well, today he told me he needed to tell me a secret and to keep it just between us. So, he tells me he has a crush on this really hot girl and that she's the hottest girl he's ever seen. He told me some perverted thing, too, but you get the idea. It's just how we talk to each other...like best friends! Anyway, I kept asking him who this girl was because I thought I could help him ask her out. He said he'd whisper it in my ear and then he leaned in and kissed me. I was really weirded out and told him to get away and to go home. I didn't tell anybody what happened but I've been ignoring him online all evening. I don't know...

I walked in on my brother masturbating! Posted Wednesday September 15 2010, 12:40 am
OK! I am totally freaking out because I came home and the house was quiet and I was being stupid I guess and just walked right into my brothers room without knocking because I didn't think he was home and I wanted to borrow one of these sweatshirts he has that are really comfortable and he was totally jacking off like right there when I opened the door. I slammed the door and ran to my room because that is DISGUSTING. Now I can't even THINK about him without wanting to vomit. What do I do now? Do I confront him? Should I say something about him being a nasty perv? I KNOW HE KNOWS I SAW but he hasn't come out of his room and said anything to me. This is so gross.

Black Sheep in My Family Posted Tuesday September 14 2010, 11:21 pm
I've always kind of been the black sheep in my family. I love them and want to stay on good terms with them, but I feel like I have to act like a totally different person around them. When I am with my friends, I have a good time, I don't feel like I have to hold back, and I can be myself. I guess I first started noticing this on Facebook. I am "Facebook friends" with both my family and my friends/acquaintances. But it feels like I constantly have to monitor what I am putting up and what my friends are saying. If I act like the "real me" around my family, I am looked down upon by them. They are very conservative, and I am more free-spirited and unconventional. I don't want their disapproval of me, because I know that I m...

Rivalry, Jealousy, Resentment, Hate or just misguided Love??? Posted Monday September 13 2010, 2:11 am
My wife and I are the youngest siblings on both sides of our family. We are also the most flamboyant, outspoken, aggressive, open to share our feelings, laid back, happy go lucky, non-opioninated, loving, careing and trusting members of our entire family.
At one time or another we have gone well beyond the call of duty, both financially and emotionally, to provide for or nurture our parents and our siblings. We have invested in their lives in their time of need and we did it willingly and gladly and from the bottom of our heart.
In the last few years my wife and I have been going through some difficult times with our business and have suffered financially. We turned to our family for help and they did for ...

Facebook vs. Mom and Boy I like(he likes me back)? Posted Saturday September 11 2010, 10:30 pm
I know, the first answer to this question is going to be, "delete your mom" or "privacy settigs" Well, I finally deleted her, I was tired of all the comments and such, I dont need to be her friend, I see her everyday, but, thats not my issue.
So this boy likes me, and I like him back. I have been in New York for the weekend for my 16th birthday. He writes on my facebook wall saying "bitchhh, you better be having fun in newyork!" but obviously joking. So, my mom sees it and comments on it, yelling at him. I feel horrible, and inboxed the boy and apologized, but he hasn't read it yet, and his phone is broken, so I have no way to apologize before I see him in school Monday. I dont want anything to b...

fuckbook Posted Saturday September 11 2010, 1:14 pm
Okay, so my mom just saw me publicly swear in a comment of a picture I was tagged in and now she's all up in my grill because I said the f word on Facebook. Aside from this, it's really annoying how all my family members are friends with me on Facebook. I seriously don't know what to do. I feel like I'm choking. I'm thinking about making a new account and just add family members there, but that'd be too obvious. What's the right thing to do?? Please help! I'd appreciate it bigtime.:(

When should you teach your child to ride a bike? Posted Friday September 10 2010, 6:11 pm
My parents never taught me how to ride a bicycle but I want to teach my son and daughter (twins). They are 4 years old right now and they play around on a little tricycle all the time but I am wondering when I should purchase a real bicycle for them to learn how to ride? I know it's great exercise for kids and I'd really like to teach them while they're young. What is the best age to teach your child how to ride a bicycle? And since I have the money right now should I go on and purchase a couple of bikes for them? Thank you.
