In a tough financial spot, should I wait it out or start selling stuff? Posted Friday September 29 2017, 11:47 pm
I had some unexpected financial fall backs this month. My home was in the direct path of a hurricane and I lost electric for two weeks leaving $200 worth of groceries spoiled. I had to eat out for a while and then replace everything that was refrigerated costing me another $150. My car windshield was smashed by a falling branch from the same hurricane, this cost me $250.
To top it all off a big paycheck I was expecting won't be coming for another week when I was told it was sent last week only to be told today it just got sent out this afternoon.
At this point after paying rent ($900) I have $370 left to my name and $650 worth of bills coming due before the 7th. I don't know what to do. My gas is also running l...

Ex ruined my life, two years later and I'm still facing the consequences? Posted Thursday August 3 2017, 6:59 pm
I understand that he couldn't have done anything without me being a part of it, but I was young and foolish at the time and he was older. I'd never been with anybody else and he was my whole world and I'd do anything for him.
I don't want to have to explain the whole situation, but I was with him once when he was shoplifting and they detained both of us. I was never formally charged and released before I could even see a judge. It's not a conviction on my record, but it still shows I was arrested and what for. I haven't been able to get it expunged off because I don't have 2k to do that with. Now a lot of places won't hire me even though it shows I was never charged and that there was no evidence to convict me on (because I ...

What should I do with my new income? Posted Friday May 19 2017, 2:48 am
Hello, I'm a college student so I wasn't able to have two jobs during the semester, but now it's summer and I recently started at a second job that earns 2000 a month on top of my first job where I make about $700. I have around $600 a month in bills and life expenses so you can see why before I wasn't able to save much.
Anyways, now that I have another paycheck coming in it's been hard for me to figure out what I should do with it. Especially considering I might have to quit my second job in three months when summer is over because it's not flexible and I don't know that I can manage it while taking a full load of classes too.
I owe money to three sources: a car I'm financing that has $9600 left on it, $1000 t...

Insurance didn't cover my rental car even though I was told they would? Posted Tuesday April 18 2017, 2:16 pm
I'm 19 and had an incident with my car where an architectural issue in a parking lot damaged my car. The owner of the parking lot contacted their insurance and they paid for the repairs on my car, but it took them a while to do it and submit the payment so their insurance company set me up with a rental vehicle.
They DID pay the first week of the rental car, but it turned out they didn't pay the last 3 days. When I talked to the rental car company they said it wasn't a problem and that they'd contact the insurance agent to extend out the payment. I then signed off releasing the car and giving it back to them.
Now a week later the rental car company called me and said that my insurance was refusing to pay for t...

Struggling Financially Posted Friday April 14 2017, 6:16 pm

Last year after my mom passed away, I moved out to another state and moved in with my older brother. I had bought a new car last year, so I make payments twice a month.
I got my dream job as a flight attendant and moved to another state by myself.
So I pay my phone bill, my car payment, insurance, rent, utilities and I'm just finishing up the double deposit on my apartment because I didn't have a cosigner.
I am really struggling. I don't have much food in the house. I have to change my registration to this new state so it'll be around $400 and when I moved, I used my credit card for almost everything because I didn't have any money when I moved. So I'm working on paying that off as well. ...

Pros and Cons to Renting Posted Monday December 26 2016, 12:26 pm
Hello, I am a 22 year old female and I'm dating a 24 year old male. We've been together for about a year and a half and have been discussing moving in together. We've been looking but not very hard, he said starting in January, we will start looking harder and get finances and everything together and get this show on the road.
For the longest time, I've been so excited to do this and get my own apartment and everything but I've kind of been glamorizing it in my mind - decorating it cute, having my own place to make mine, buying all of my own things with only having to discuss it with my boyfriend. I haven't really thought about the having to get my own health insurance (I'm still on with my parents whom are self employed so t...

How can I establish real savings or credit? Posted Thursday October 6 2016, 5:04 pm
I can never establish real savings or credit and it's really aggravating to me. I've been in college for a year and a half and I also work somewhere between part time and full time (depending on the week). I have a car payment and car insurance that come out to around $420, and then of course there's groceries and gas which is usually another $120 a month (I don't drive that far and I also have a meal plan so I use that for a few meals a week and other groceries I bargain hunt for).
I should be making around $700 a month, but that never seems to be the case because there's always some hours I can't work due to having too much homework.
Anyways, I still try to save a little bit, but it almost never works out be...

Budgeting My Paycheck? Posted Sunday September 25 2016, 5:27 pm
So I'm a high school senior, 17, and I want to work on budgeting my paychecks. I work at McDonalds, make about $7.43 and hour, and usually work 15-20 hours a week, maybe a little more, and I do pay taxes and do the McScholars which takes out 50¢ an hour on top of whatever tax is. I get paid bi-weekly and the checks are typically between $100 and $200. I tend to be really bad about making my money last, between buying things i actually need and then blowing the rest on junk food i dont need to buy, unneccisarily eating at work, and getting other random things I dont need. I have been settinf aside between $40 and $80 each paycheck, but I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea on how I could start budgeting? I don't drive or have a ve...

HELP! Completely out of money and overdrafted?!!! Posted Wednesday September 21 2016, 11:55 am
Hello, I'm freaking out and don't know what to do. I'm completely out of money and overdrafted by -$10 in my account.
I'm a college student who just moved off to college less than a month ago and found a new job three weeks ago. It turned out though that in the first two weeks my job didn't give me very many hours as I was training so I only wound up with about $110 for the first week and haven't been paid yet for this last week and won't be paid for this week until next Thursday or later.
My issue is that I have a car payment and car insurance which totals about $425 together and my car insurance was taken out this morning, which is what overdrafted me.
I even sold a watch that I loved to make ...

I need 1000 dollars, in 4 weeks. Posted Tuesday September 20 2016, 2:16 pm
Now long story short, I'm a 17 year old who managed to graduate early and is now paying my way through college myself. My parents helped me some, but everything else I pay for myself.
This is not the problem, the problem is that recently my best friend of my entire life lost everything. She had to move out of her parents house(and she moved in with me), her car is broken and has AWFUL gas mileage, her boyfriend dumped her for no reason, and to top it all off her job recently dropped all her clients but one so she has barely any income. Last night she was understandably very upset and while driving got a ticket. A 450$ ticket, and one she can't afford to pay.
I of course said I'd help her out and take care of it consi...

Need to get my brain to brain past July, but it's stuck. Posted Thursday April 28 2016, 7:42 pm
28/f.
Long story as short as I can make it:
I'm currently unemployed. My unemployment runs out about the end of May. I'm graduating with my Master's in Clinical Psychology at the end of July, but I won't be licensed until late August/early Septemberish. Between the end of May and the end of August, I have NO income. I live in an apartment, alone, and my family can't help.
Come late August/early Septemberish, I will begin my doctoral program, where we are not allowed to work past the first semester; I'll be able to take out loans for living expenses.
I am so terrified of the prospect of being flat broke and further in debt, I can't think straight to apply for scholarships, or to other/better schools, let alone a...

Constantly broke college student Posted Tuesday December 15 2015, 7:56 pm
Hi everyone! I really hope someone can help. I've been struggling with money for most of my life; I have never been able to save money or to budget properly.
I am a junior in college. I'm very lucky that I don't have to worry about loans or books. I live on campus, so my living expenses (aside from groceries) are covered, too. I work on campus, and am currently capped at 10 hrs a week, so I only make about $200 every paycheck (twice a month).
I'm ashamed to admit it, but I run out of money right before every paycheck. I'm lucky if I'm left with $10 in my bank account. I don't understand how my friends are able to go shopping or get their nails done or even go to Starbucks and are seemingly unconcerned about th...

DO I HAVE TO SEND THIS BACK? Posted Monday October 5 2015, 12:30 pm
I went online and bought diet pills, I was told it was a trial and would only have to pay postage, after I paid postage I then saw that it was a membership and I would be billed in 30 days for about £70, I got in touch and told them I didn't want to continue this, that was ok, but when pills arrived it was for 60 not 30 as stated in the trial,(I was told they didn't have any bottles of the 30 pills left only the 60) I was told to send 30 to address in Cyprus, I then said this is going to cost a bit and really why should I pay for 60 when I only wanted 30.I have informed my credit card company to stop them taking any more money from my account. Anybody got any solution thank you
