being hairless

Posted Thursday October 16 2003, 2:13 am

What's this obsession we have with being hairless? Why do we thing that bare skin is so appealing? If we look at any animal, they just look disgusting without hair. Imagine shaving a cat.

What's wrong with hair, anyway? Is it just our preoccupation with youth that we shave the parts of our body that grow hair after puberty, in an effort to look pre-pubescent?

Sorry, just a rant. I guess if I want advice, it's this: How can I make people feel more comfortable about my hairy state?

I realize I am a dumb male, but I am trying to do the best I

Posted Tuesday October 14 2003, 11:54 pm

I realize I am a dumb male, but I am trying to do the best I can wth it. There is a girl I like, but due to several things, I can't ask her out or tell her how I feel for a while. That bugs me, but it's not what I'm writing about. We're getting to be pretty good close friends (which I feel is better for the long run anyway), and she's really cool. She's also big into feminism. I've always sort of considered myself a feminist, but never really thought about it too much. So now I'm wondering if I really am becoming more of a feminist due to her influence, or if I'm just sort of wearing it on my sleeve so she'll like me more. I don't like to do things half-heartedly, I feel it would be unfair to myself and to feminism in general. So am I really a feminist?

I'm a feminist but none of the women in my family seem to be

I'm a feminist but none of the women in my family seem to be catching on. My grandmother says I don't wear enough dresses and my mother thinks all the women's literature I read is worthless. What's wrong with these people?

I've worn makeup for years

Posted Tuesday October 14 2003, 10:53 pm

I've worn makeup for years, and I have gotten so used to seeing myself with it that I hate the way I look without it. But, I am sick of not really looking like my natural self, since everyone knows me with my face made-up. I don't know how to stop really wearing makeup, without being unhappy with how I look without it. Any ideas????

cookies, cont.

Posted Tuesday October 14 2003, 3:30 pm

Yes, but why so many cookies? I can understand one cookie for tracking (and it seems that Frontpage does this by default, because I think I get alerted of one every time I visit a Frontpage-designed site). But why does one site need to send me 5 or more cookies? (This doesn't even count third-party cookies from advertisers.)

cookies

Posted Tuesday October 14 2003, 1:51 am

Why do web sites send so many cookies?

I have my browser set to notify me of cookies, and on some sites, I'm clicking "refuse" like 10 or 12 times before I can view the page.
I have lots blocked, but it seems that each site sends its own cookies in addition to those of the ads.
Ugh.

dealing with a lost pet

Posted Tuesday October 14 2003, 12:46 am

I recently just lost a pet. Well, actually my cat, Precious, was an outdoor cat. She'd come in and out of the house frequently, but was always home in time for bed.

One day we let her out, and by bed time she didn't come back. Okay, she's been out during the night, no big prob. But, she never returned.

My cat and I were very close. I'm having a hard time dealing with this, and I find myself calling out her name. It doesn't matter if I'm working, or thinking about something else, I'll just start randomly calling out for her.

And my job as a cashier with a grocery store hasn't been much help either. Just seeing and selling cat food makes me all that depressed. And cats I see when I'm outsid...

ately I developed a liking towards a guy friend in my dorm.

Posted Monday October 13 2003, 11:14 pm

Lately I developed a liking towards a guy friend in my dorm. Every time it was just the two of us together, or just the two of us and perhaps one other close friend, he would act very solicitous towards me--he would do small things such as put his arm around my shoulder, hold my books for me, etc. I have also had many wonderful conversations with him in his room and elsewhere. So I was hopeful until this week, when I found out that he has asked another girl to a date event and has feelings towards her. Now I wonder if he felt something towards me but was discouraged by my inaptitude in flirting--I have difficulty playing that whole game of hinting and whatnot. It's a foreign language to me.

running

Posted Monday October 13 2003, 7:29 pm

I like to go jogging in the park a lot, but I've heard from some people that it's really tough on my joints, especially knees. My knees and ankles are sore after I run, but I can't think of a better activity to do for my heart, you know what I mean? Is running really so bad? Am I going to crumble into nothing someday, or can I just drink lots of milk and be fine?

Is it rude to tell someone what they are doing is extremely rude/disgusting? For example, a friend of mine chews with her mouth open, should I tell her it drives me crazy or just let her continue?
