i don't have a father figure in my life. my dad is a jerk..he tried like almost killing me before..and i don't see my step-dad as a father! do i need a father figure in my life? please help! i rate high!

My dad is a horrible man as well. He is an alcoholic and recently we found out he has had a girlfriend for the last few years so he and my mom are getting a divorce. They have been going thru the divorce for about two years now. He says he wants a relationship with my older sister and I but shows us otherwise. My mom and sister are amazing people though. I honestly feel that you can grow up to be a wonderful person without a father in your life. Life doesnt always give us the fathers we deserve. I have forgiven my dad a million times for the drinking and the threats and the scary nights when he was drunk, but honestly I feel like I am better without him. From the sound of your dad I would say your better off without him as well. You dont have to see your step dad as a father to you. In simple he isnt your dad. But your lucky IF HE IS GOOD TO YOU AND TO YOUR MOM******* than you should accept him as your step dad. As much as this kills me to admit I still love my dad which im sure you do too deep down. That doesnt mean I want him in my life or really anything to do with him. So your step dad isnt going to replace those feelings that you have for your dad, but you can look at him as a really great guy that loves your mom and you. I hope this helps!
