whoever out there..somebody: I need help! REcently I just started cutting again because I have done it a little bit in the past. I reall want to stop but I don't really know how. I just don't approve of myself and it feels as if my life is going downhill. I need some advice and if anyone out there has done this before and quit- please tell me how you did it.
Thank You! (link)
I'm 18 and I'm still struggling with the urge, but I haven't done it in a little less than a month. I've been working on it. A friend told me that when I feel the urge to cut, to go get a piece of ice out of the freezer and hold it on the spot until the urge goes away. She got this from a phsychiatrist who told her this. Quitting has a few steps that you have to go through. I know you have heard most of these, and you probably don't like hearing them, I didn't either, but it helped me.
1. admitting you have a problem with something of yourself which is causing you to cut
2. after you realize your problem, seek theorapy. this is the best thing for you
3. find another way to cope with your feelings the ones that cause you to cut. a healthy way
4. seek additional help, like hanging out with friends who love you. doing this should help you.

I really hope this helps you, it's helped me. You can email me if you want more advise.

why do people cut themselves because i have a friend that does and its obvious. my friend always blames it on "the cat" but cat scratches don't make crazy grid patterns. (link)
People often cut because they are in pain, not because they can't take care of "their petty little problems". I'm probably the only one up here who has been fighting with cutting. I've been working on stopping, and so far it's worked. Ok anyways. Cutting is a way to release pain that we feel, though it's very unhealthy, it does work for that moment. After so long, the cuts go deeper and deeper as it gets to where we are immune to the little ones. The best thing to do for your friend is to just be there for this person, listen to them, and be their support. Most of the time, that is all a person needs. Sometimes, they need help to understand how to express their feelings in a healthier way, not by cutting. I hope I actually helped. :) Oh and one more thing, don't criticize people who cut, especially if you know nothing about it, you don't know how they feel inside. That goes to the one with the smart alick answer.
