Okay, so I was trying to get my ear holes to a 16ga, and I couldn't find a nail or anything, so I used this broken earing, and the part that is supposed to go through your ear broke off, so I used the hoop part. Now, this isn't sterling silver, its a cheap earing. Is their any chance that I could have infected my ear, because I didn't sterylize it, but i thought if I got it hot it would melt.
My friend pierced her ear without starylizing it and she almost got blood poisioning.

2 questions:
1. Is there a chance I could get infected or blood poisioning? the earring wasnt dirty or anything.
2. What are some ways I can prevent any infections right now?

Okay first off - NEVER use a nail to help gage your ear, what it is made out of is not a healthy object for your ear. If you have to use any household objects use things like bobby pins, tweezers to help stretch, or just buy proper gauges. Make sure any object you use is clean and sterile, wash it in soap and water to clean it and make sure you cleaned your ear before putting it in.
1.) Now with the cheap earring, you could have infected your ear, but only you will know that when the time comes for swelling, pain, redness, and even that ear gauge "smell".
2.) If you do have infections, go to a piercing place ask for Sea Salt or any other disinfectant they SHOULD carry. Sea salt mixes work best, it doesn't hurt and it cleanses the piercing and makes it healthy again super fast.
