I'm Sarah! Feel free to ask me questions about anything! I'll do my best to give you the best advice possible! I play the flute, I'm second chair in the top symphony in my city! I've also been doing tap and ballet for about 12 years! That's about all there is to know! =D

I'm going to get braces within a few weeks and I'm kinda starting to worry about playing flute with them. Do any of you have braces and play flute? If so, is there anyway you can position the flute so it's not right on your chin when you play? Also, will having braces dramatically change my performance?

Hello!

I've been playing flute for quite awhile and I plan on majoring in flute performance in college so I was excited to see this question!

When I was in the seventh grade I got my braces on and my performance did change, but only for about two weeks. It's just a matter of getting used to the way your embouchure is going to feel. The thing about trying to move the flute so it's more comfortable is confusing. It might be more comfortable if it's not right on your chin but make sure your lip isn't covering the tone hole...if you do put it farther on your lip make sure you roll out on your head joint! Good luck!
