If I do 5-10 minute exercises throughout the day instead of 1-50 minute exercise, will it have the same effect, because I am still burning the same ammount of calories right? assuming I do a 10 minute workout at 170 calories burned.

I have heard that said, but I believe it works best for obese people having a harder time moving for long periods of time. The trouble with the short ten minute energy spurts is that you never really get your metabolism high enough to make an impact, unless you are overweight and need even the smallest push in your metabolism. You also can't get your adrenaline pumping in order to push yourself.
