I don't think that it's really anything besides a "steamy makeout session," like you called it. If you both believe in abstinence, that proves my point even more.
I don't consider it bad at all. If your intentions are both towards abstinence, then...it isn't really sex. You might want to talk to your boyfriend; however, to see what he thinks.
