When I started college I noticed that I was feeling kind of down. I was at a new school so I felt very shy and didn't want to talk to people. It got worse and after a while I didn't want to go to my classes anymore. I knew something was wrong so I went to see a psychologist and she told me that I have depression and anxiety. She also said that I've had it for so long that I didn't even realize it was there. My doctor then put me on antidepressants. My question is, since I've been depressed for so long is it possible for me to get better? Or is this just a part of who I am now and my personality? Thanks (link)
I've suffered from anxiety and depression in the past. It doesn't go away on its own, but you can get better. I never took medication, mostly because I don't like the idea of being dependant on a drug, so I don't know what that is like. I think one of the biggest things that helped me was to stay busy, don't just lay in bed or binge on tv shows, find hobbies or volunteer for things. You might not want to, but go out of your way to put yourself outside of your comfort zone, it might be hard currently with covid. Exercise is amazing, intense exercise gives an great mood boost, and regular exercise leaves you happier overall. I never felt comfortable talking to people about my emotions, still don't but to a lesser extent, so I kept a sort of diary. Whenever I felt particularly shitty I would just write whatever came to mind, often random babblings, but it helped to get things out, even if it was just on paper. I hope I've helped in some way. You can do it, it just takes time.
