Can you be born with herpes, or just have it somehow? My boyfriend and I have never had sex, but we have done oral sex which I know transmits the herpes virus. But since both of us are virgins is it even possible for us to have the std? He had three cold sores in his mouth and complained of a headache for the past several days. These may just be a coincidence, but I'm worried. We two healthy teens, am I just overreacting? (link)

So, a lot of the things that Peeps said were factually correct, but that guy seemed to be of the attitude that a coldsore is such a terrible and embarrassing thing. This complaint that his or her mother didn't take extreme measures to protect Peeps from an infection which can barely be considered a small rash is really melodramatic.
Look, there's nothing to be embarrassed about, people with hsv1 are not either evil people who are suffering the consequences of poor judgment or innocent victims of the negligence of others. There's this weird stigma attached to a disease which can be transmitted sexually versus any other disease. A wart on your hand is banal while a wart on your genital region is worthy of a panic and unfair judgement.
Your boyfriend should know the difference between hsv1 symptoms and a canker sore, as well. I sometimes get a canker inside of my lip and, I learned contrary to what I previously believed, this was not caused by herpes. And if it was actually herpes, remember that good people still get infections.
Anyway, be safe!
