I have no clue how to play softball. All I know is it's like baseball with a bigger softer ball. I know you hit the ball with a bat and run around some bases. That's pretty much it. Please tell me everything there is to know about softball before I humiliate myself playing it again.
Ok, to start off, the softball isn't any softer, it's the same feel and whatnot like a baseball. The softball is obviously bigger.
Now, it depends on what kind of softball you are playing...
Now if you were playing slow-pitch softball, there is no leading off. The batting rules could be different. Every league is different. Either girls have two swinging strikes and 3 balls and guys have two swinging strikes and 3 balls. I guess it depends on how the rules of your softball league. Now when you are on offense (batting) and you are up to bat and you hit the ball you must run to first, obviously. And you must run all the way through first base. (Meaning: when you run to first base you must over run it, do not stop or slow down on your way to first base.) Now when the batter after you is up, and you are on first, if the hit is on the ground you must run to second base. If the hit is in the air, wait by first base. If it is caught you must tag up - meaning you must touch first base again before running to second. If it isn't caught just run straight to second base. (you cannot over-run second or third base). You’re First Base Coach will be helping you out with that!
DEFENSE (in the field): (depending on where you play)
If you play in the field. There is nobody on base. You’re play is at first base. If there is someone only on first base, your force play is at second base. You can also throw it to first, but if you are closer to second base throw it there. (a force play is the leading base where the lead runner is advancing to). And so on…
If you play in the outfield. You will most likely never really throw it to first base. If you play Right Center (RC), or Right Field (RF) your cutoff is second base. If you play Left Field (LF) or Left Center (LC) your cutoff is shortstop. You will usually throw it to second base when you get it out in the outfield. Usually your infield will communicate with the outfield before the pitcher pitches the ball. So you will know where the play should be. So then you are able to know where you need to throw it before you get the ball.
Now, if you need anymore help with this, let me know. There is plenty more to know about softball!
I hope this helped! I am an assistant coach for High School fast-pitch and I also played fast-pitch in college. So if you have anymore questions, don’t hesitate to ask! That’s what I’m here for!!

yea so im a 15/f i really like basketball & id love to play next year but im so nervous because there are a limited amount of spots! in 7th, 8th, & 9th grade seasons i played post, but because im not exactly the tallest im having to change to guard. im really worried about dribbling & outside shots any one got anything i can practice?!
THANKS
ok, i played basketball ever since 4th grade and stopped my sophomore year in high school. Between all those seasons, i played every position and eventually i was placed into only one position. I played post a couple times and then my main position was guard or forward. I shot the 3's and was good at freethrows. Now, this may sound like a stupid question, but when you shoot freethrows, do you jump? or are your feet stationary? If they aren't stationary, work on that and then honestly, eventually it will help you with out your outside shots. Have you played around the world? If not, try that. Start with close shots and go through the entire game. Then eventually back up until you're shooting from the 3pt line. If you need anymore info, let me know. My dad coached me through gradeschool and then once I graduated from gradeschool I was assistant coach for a couple gradeschool teams. So I can definitely help ya out! Just let me know!!
Hope this helped!

I'm 13 and I'm trying out for my school's volleyball team in 2 weeks. I've never played on a team before; but I've been to 6 camps, several private training classes with the coach, and practice with my dad alot [ he and the coach play on the same adult leauge team * they're best friends but she already told me I wasn't garenteed a spot on the team]
However I'm really nervous, I'm not that tall. And the Coach practicly immeaditley takes tall girls even if they have no idea what sport they're trying out for leaving only a few extra spots for girls who know what there doing. I'm a pretty good player; I've taken 1st 2nd and 3rd in my camps final tournements. But I'm really nervous; I'm so nervous I can't even serve anymore. My serves haven't made it over the net consistenly in 2 weeks. How can I calm down; and better prepare myself for try outs? Thanks guys =]
Ok. First of all, when you serve: RELAX. I used to do the same thing with my serves. I couldn't get them over the net consistently either. This is what I did. I made goals and consequences for myself. (consequences: for example: if i missed a serve I would have to run from one side of the gym to the other and get right back in there and serve. Just make up something small and then eventually when you get your serves over consistently make them a little harder). Also, right before I served (overhand), I took a deep breath then took two short bounces on the gym floor-to get me focused. Then I extend my arms (in the postion right before you toss the ball in the air) and take another deep breath and then serve it. Make sure the toss is high enough and hit it on the base of you palm (if thats what its called). Then eventually when you get it over consistantly, aim. You know what the positions are right? 1-6? Aim for the number 5 or 3 or something just for a little challenge. I was an assistant volleyball coach my junior year of highschool and we won first place in our division that year. If you need anymore help, let me know and I will be glad to help you out.
Also, do exercises to strengthen your arm. That will also help you out.
Well I hope I helped! And let me know if you need anymore advice!! :-)

I was talking to this guys today and he used to play football and he shaves his legs. He said that the reason he started was becuase they had to tape their legs in football and it hurt when he took the tape off. But anyway, what do they tape their legs for?
They could tape for a lot of different reasons. Injury, support and sometimes just knowing that something is there it won't worry them on getting hurt.
so i have been with this team for about 6 years and i work hard each summer and i'm still benched a lot throughout the whole season. I'm not very good friends with the people on the team and sometimes i think that i'm not that good. i'm torn between quitting when the season ends or sticking witht the team. it would only be one more year of it and then i'd be done. should i go through being benched a whole year again, and keep trying to improve, or should i just quit and let the stress and other drama be gone? help!
ok... well i dont know what your strengths or weaknesses are, so i cant really help you out that way, but if you could tell me what they are I can help you out better.
My junior year I played volleyball and I was benched because the seniors that year were good and my position was taken: setter. And I was like third-string. lol But anyways, I hated sitting on the bench BUT I learned alot. My senior year, we got new coaches and now I was the setter for our team. I think sitting on the bench helped out, as much as I didn't like it, but it did help me and I learned alot. Now with your situation you said you have one more year ? well if thats the case you need to ask yourself these questions:
How determined am I to improve?
If I quit, will I be happy with my decision?
See what your answers are and then make your decision... And let me know what you choose! :-)
I hope I helped!
