And do you need a license?

It depends really on the age of the children you are babysitting. The younger they are, the more training you should probably have. You need to be emotionally, mentally and physically capable in order to care for another human being. I'd say the most appropriate age to start would be 13 years old. In Canada, it helps a lot if you have a background police check to verify you have no criminal history, references and First Aid & CPR training. If you are younger, having experience and and a few references under your belt should be perfectly fine. Also, try taking a small course if it is your first time babysitting!

Okay,
So I'm babysitting for the first time on Saturday, one is eight years old and another is about 3.
Okay, so what do you do-do you just sit there like what someone did to me when I was little? Or do you play, or have fun or what?
Seriosuly any advice welcome :))

I can almost guarantee you that if you sit and only watch the children, and not play with them, the parent or caregiver will not want to keep you around very long, and the children will tell them that you are boring. The 3 year old will require a lot more energy, but with very simple things. You will need to keep them physically active at almost all times. Since the age gap between the two children are very big, something they can both do with you is bake something together. (Chocolate chip cookies are a favorite. Even store bought, cake mix can be fun. You can make cupcakes and decorate them with the two). Ask the parents if using the stove is okay first! If not, you can buy store bought cupcakes, and ice/decorate them with each other. You can fill time in with the 8 year old by watching a movie of their choice or teaching them a new card game. The 3 year old might not be able to sit down for a long time. The 3 year old, you can entertain by making a few different arts and crafts. You can find plenty of ideas online. Even finger painting can be very fun. Also, the 8 year old will most likely tell you exactly what they want to do with you. You can keep them in a good mood by playing the radio in the background. Talk to them a lot, smile always and be careful of everything that you say around them. Don't use any slang words, and look clean and groomed. Just remember that you are the adult, and you are the one in charge. Keep your eyes on them at all times, and never turn your back on them at all. You should do perfectly fine if you actually like children. Good luck! :)
