Q: 17/f
-hi guys ! So I'm all bubbly and excited cause the director at my new dance school is deciding to let me have a trial pre pointe class. It has always been a dream of mine to do pointe and this the first step. I was looking for advice on what extra things I could do to prepare for this test. ! I'm a thick girl, 5 feet tall 125 pounds which is a healthy weight. I've done soft ballet for 6 years. I jog and excercise everyday but I don't think I'll be as flexible as other girls.
Please help me. !
As a former pointe dancer, I must encourage you to work on your leg strength and flexibility. Try taking up yoga or Pilates. There are a bunch of videos on youtube to help learn different techniques using those two methods to gain strength, muscle, and flexibility. Be sure to stretch multiple times a day so that your body becomes accustomed to its new found flexibility. Flexibility is like learning a new language: If you don't use it, you lose it. As for the test, you will need to know your soft ballet positions, turns, and jumps. They are slightly more difficult to do on pointe, because of the extended inches now being add on to your feet. Before my test, I wore my pointe shoes around my house for the whole day prior. My feet were able to adapt comfortably to the shoes, and they felt normal. I wish you the best of luck and please let me know how you make out!

Thanks do much for the advice (: the teacher said I could go into prepointe but also mentioned that my technique in soft shoes needs some tweaking. So I decided to continue soft until all the little flaws are resolved (:
