so i'll be a freshman this fall in college. I'm kind of a shy/quite girl around strangers, but when I"m with my friends I can really open up and be myself.
Short story- high school was hell for me. My high school had almost 4,000 kids total and it was really hard for me to fit in and find good friends. This year in college, i really want to change that. I want to make friends right away but I'm kind of clueless as to what to do. I'm not really the person who reaches out to other people.. i get kind of nervous when I talk to people i don't know. I just need help. hah. thanks!
oh and my college is small. it has about 2,500 or 3,000 undergrads and its a D3 private school. So the class sizes will be a lot smaller than what i'm used to. my mom said its a good thing because it will allow me to be more myself in class, and not hide in the corner like high school lol. (link)

Well obviously you can make friends since you have close ones, so thats a good start. What would your close friends say about you? Funny? Nice? Smart? Chill? Roll with that.
I know its not easy to put yourself out there to complete strangers but here are a few tips I use.
1. Compliments. Easy as pie. I mean dont go overboard or anything. For example, if someone next to you has a shirt on that you like, tell them you like it! Either itll open up conversation like 'oh you like that band/store/mall...etc' or the person is shy. This really works though.
2. This sounds really weird, but make yourself think youre the most pretty, cool, awesome person in the group youre talking to. I dont mean that you act like a stuck up bitch, but just have good posture, smile, laugh and comment at what people say like you are confident and happy with yourself and youre personality. Not everyones gonna like you, but if you like yourself others will too.
3. If your college has clubs for things that youre interested in, JOIN. What better way to meet people that have the same interests as you?
