What would you say are some classic books that no-one should go without reading? I recently bought The Count of Monte Cristo, any other suggestions?

John Steinbeck: In Dubious Battle, The Grapes of Wrath, The Wayward Bus, etc.
I didn't care for Travels with Charlie, but except for that, (which is probably just me anyway), anything by Steinbeck is good.
