Q: I just got the Hot Tools 1.5" Curling Iron and I'm excited to use it! I heard that in order to get waves, you shouldn't use the clamp. My question is how do you wrap your hair around the curling iron without using the clamp? It's not working for me.
Thanks :)

In order to curl your hair without using the clamp, you just leave the clamp closed and don't put your hair into it. When I use it without the clamp, I put the iron as close to my roots as possible without it burning me and I wrap the hair around the barrel and hold it onto the barrel. I put a glove on sometimes so it doesn't get too hot on my fingers. If you want loose beach curls, leave the last two inches of your hair uncurled or else it'll give too much of a tamed look and make your curls look too perfect to be loose curls. Also, barrels that are smaller in diameter might result in more of Taylor Swift curls (http://wjules.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/taylor-swift.jpg) than loose waves.
You might want to refer to this in order to get the gist of curling without the clamp:

Good luck!

Hey! I don't go by a name. ;) I try giving the best advice I can possibly give and I never try to sell a person short of a great answer. I'm good at answering questions about relationships, beauty, friendships, but I know a little about other things here and there, so give it a shot and ask me.
