Just watch the south park episode about vampires in the school. That should clear things up. ;p
Today (though it wasn't always liek this), because punk rock and whatever's all "cool" now, more and more kids think it's fun to be emo and wear black. These are the kids in love with Hot Topic, wearing black AND neon colors, dying their hair, and listening to Fall Out Boy and Paramore. Most emo kids of today are the rap-loving kids from the past, and the pop-lovers from even before that. They jsut go with the crowd. And since they think emo's trendy, they'll probably be more braggy about how "hardcore" they are. Emo kids are also more emotional, and they tend to be seen in packs. Goths are more loner-y. Aside from the "I'm-just-doing-this-cause-it's-cool" emos, there are others that look like them but don't STRESS how emo they are.
Goths, on the other hand, usually wear ONLY black (and none of that skinny jeans stuff), and are very VERY into dark stuff. Also goths tend to listen to gothic rock, death metal, and various other genres while the emo kids fall for Silverstein, 3OH!3, etc.
