Q: Okay, so I have a lot of babysitting experience, all with kids I know. The kids all knew and like me already. I have a mother's helper job tomorrow to watch 2 kids at a playground with their mom. A whole bunch of other kids will be there. I am kind of nervous, though, because I don't know either of the kids, just the mom. I know that the kids are good, but very shy. I'm kind of nervous about getting the kids to like me, and what to do with them at the playground. Any ideas? I need them within the next 2 hours because it's tomorrow. (The job)

Thanks!
Alright, I'm a nanny so I can help you out here. You need to connect with the kids on a level that they understand. For example: try to figure out what things they like to pretend. (the sand is lava, they are on a boat, or they are spies.) Once you get children into a "pretending" state, you'll learn a lot about their personalities. That will make it a lot easier to play with them in the future because you will already have a gist of what they like and what makes them comfortable. Children are an EXCELENT judge of character. You need to prove to them that you WANT to be there and that you WANT to be their friend.

Take care and keep me posted!

Great idea! I'll definitely try it!
