well i've been wanting to get something done on my face for awhile now, and at first it was going to be a stud on the nose. but then the whole universe decided it was a good time to get that done, so eh, i thought maybe a lip piercing isn't too shabby after all. most people are against my decision, saying it'll look bad. but i really want to get it done, regardless, so i ignored those remarks. but one grabbed my attention, my sister who knows quite a lot about piercings had told me i could chip my tooth on it, it could destroy my gums, i could swallow the back. so i was wondering- are these really as big as they sound or is it just an over exaggeration? and before i get it done, what are some things i should know? thankyou. Dentists warn against oral piercings because they are indeed bad for your teeth. First of all, they wear down tooth enamel by rubbing against your teeth. If this concerns you (it would concern me), I would advise you don't get a lip or tongue piercing. I had a lip piercing before, and one thing to consider is that they are a little gross when you're eating. It's kind of a gross thing many people don't mention, but food gets caught on them, and it's absolutely disgusting. Also, since the piercing is in your mouth(which is full of bacteria) they run a high risk of infection. If you do decide to get it done anyway, be sure you keep it really clean until it heals. I used Bactine on the outside and washed my mouth with Listerine regularly.
Don't use alcohol on your face because it can make the scar more prominent should you choose to take it out. Also, I hope you are planning on having it done professionally at a trustworthy place, not just for safety, but because if it's done correctly, it will not scar. They should actually give you detailed aftercare instructions, so follow them.
If you're wondering how it will feel, I just want to add that when I got mine done, I was sitting there wondering when the guy was going to do it, but he already had the ring in. I felt nothing. Different people feel different things.
One more thing... if what you really want is a nose stud, get a nose stud. Who cares if they're popular. Sometimes you'll like things that are popular, and sometimes you'll like things that aren't. As long as you always do what you really want, you won't be conforming or anything. Do what makes you feel pretty. Also, with a nose piercing you won't have to worry about damaging your teeth, getting food caught on a lip ring, getting puss in your mouth if the piercing gets infected (a gross reality), etc...
