I am a wife and a mother of three grown sons. I live in New York and am an equestrian. Most of my free time is spent riding and caring for my horses now that my sons are out of the house.
I give down to earth advice, as I tell it like I see it...and I've seen alot.

I don't know if you could go to jail for writing to him, but he could get into real trouble for communicating with you, a minor. As for security checking...I do believe they have the option of reading his mail if they suspect any possible trouble.
I don't know how old you are or why he is in jail, but if you have a heart for him, you wouldn't try and communicate with him. He's, obviously, in enough trouble already. You don't need to add to his grief.
