I am a wife and a mother of three grown sons. I live in New York and am an equestrian. Most of my free time is spent riding and caring for my horses now that my sons are out of the house.

I give down to earth advice, as I tell it like I see it...and I've seen alot.

Hi, I have had 30 plus years experience in horse activities, this is where my talent is. I have given lessons off and on over the last year, but now I'd like to make a living at it. However, I need to have a steady reliable income at the same time due to the amount of bills I have to pay, and the care of my farm and animals. What are some unique marketing ideas to target young and adult riders so I can get at least 4 lessons lined up a day? I live 30 minutes from a larger city and there are small towns scattered throughout the area. In this enconomy would people spend $30.00 a week on what most would call recreation? (link)
Do you have a website? That's one way to get the message out. Is there an equestrian magazine marketed to your area? If so, try an ad. How about an ad directed to older adults? Those boomers who gave up dreams of riding to work and raise families? It could read something like this..."Have you always wanted to learn to ride, but, never had the time or money due to family restraints and finances? Well, welcome Empty Nesters! Here's your opportunity. You can learn to ride, whether you're 40 or 70! You can live your dream." Or something like that. Offer a 1/2 hr. lesson at $30 and if they bring a friend, their next lesson is 1/2 price. A promotional. Saturdays can be a bring your grandchild for a free 15 minute lesson to learn the basics.

That's what I would do because the boomers are the ones with the money and the time. If you appeal to children, they have to nag their parents for lessons. Younger parents may not have the means to give their children lessons. If boomers answer your ad, you can count on it. They can afford it.
