so...my name is Rebecca and I'm 17, going to be a senior in high school . i am currently at either the 2nd or 3rd spot in my class academically, but plan to graduate as valedictorian...so if you have a problem academically I'd love to help! i want to be a journalist (and kind of am), which means i may be a little harsh, but i do have a not-so-sharp edge (don't get me wrong, i can be sassy, I'd just rather smile :) ) . I love knowing that i can help someone and I'm actually of use to someone. When i was younger i was more shy, and all people knew about me was that i was a good friend and for the people i answer...i hope you think so too!
Also, God is big in my life. Like my whole life. And for anything I help you with...I give Him all the glory. It's all about Him and what He's given us. :)

So, there's this guy that I've liked for about a year or so and mostly everyone in my grade (9th) knows because of my blabber-mouthed ex-friends...
I really want to go to the dance with someone, so I would very much like to ask him.
Problem is, he's ALWAYS around his friends (the preps) and he's extremely shy. I don't think he's going out with anyone right now, however, but I don't know how to ask him without it seeming overly obvious because, as I said before, he's ALWAYS around his friends.
We're friends on myspace, but we don't usually talk a lot inside or outside of school - would it be alright to send him a message, asking him if he wants to go to the dance with me?
I'm confused and sort of sad since I asked one of my guy friends out about a week ago and he lied to me saying that he didn't have time for a girlfriend (he ended up going out with one of his other friends after I asked him...).
Sorry that this is so long, but I'm really confused right now and most of my friends already have dates to the dance.
Thanks! (link)

have that kind of friend. if you know him well enough, start messaging him on myspace about something you know he's interested in. it'll make it easier to talk him at school. like...whoever answered before me, it is better to ask in person, but if you are having an actual conversation and not just saying "hey its me, let's go to the dance" it may be a little less weird. otherwise, i know rejection is scary, but if you really do like him, and he's decent at all, just ask, before you don't have a chance anymore. anyway, hope that helped. :)

I'll try asking him to the dance in person by striking up a conversation because yeah, it would be a little awkward just to "cut to the chase" ask him to the dance. :S
However, how can I talk to him alone in person without it seeming really obvious? His friends are always around him and they will make a big deal out of it if they find out - I hate drama.
I don't really want to call him unless he gives me his number himself because I don't want him to think I'm stalking him. :S lol
Thanks
