Q: this is a stupid yet important question. my friend says that it's bad to do arm vibrato cuz it doesnt come naturally and is forced. i personally do hand vibrato but i wanna try arm. so tell me: is what my friend said true?

That's not true. There are several types of vibrato: arm, hand, and finger. Professional musicians play using any of the three, and many utilize all three, depending on what they feel is necessary. For example, finger can used in higher positions when there's not much room to move the wrist or arm. I tend to use hand vibrato mostly, but I will break out the arm vibrato when I have long, sustained notes.

Keep in mind that none of the types of vibrato are "natural" though, and for many strings players it takes months to feel fully comfortable doing vibrato of any type. So really, do what you feel is best. I think it's great you want to try another type of vibrato.
