I can't remember the word, but it's a term learned in psychology. I'll try to explain it as best I can.. It's when something from the past makes it harder to learn new things.
For example, say a person played tennis their whole life, then picked up volleyball. They are used to serving the ball the "tennis" way, which makes it harder to serve a volleyball the "volleyball" way.
Thank you sooo much if you know what it is! (link)

Normal age-related changes in the brain can slow some cognitive processes, making it a bit harder to learn new things quickly or to ward off distractions.

sorry but I was looking for a specific word, not an explanation.
