I need a guys opinion on this.

I met a guy, he is a sweetheart and we get along well. I want to get to know him better, maybe be able to get into a relationship with him. But he just got out of a relationship with a girl whom, cheated; Lied; and said things like "I'm not attracted to you, but I love you though"; He is hurt by it and I understand I just don't know how to approach him with the consideration of maybe getting to know each other better maybe in hopes of a relationship.
DO you think I should give him a little more time?
Should I probably just see where things go without trying to help things along?

Give him time to heal, but get to know him more. Chat with him, and keep a smile on his face. Show him you care and that you're around if he wants to talk. Once you've given it time, then let on that you like him. Ask him to hang out one day.
