i have braces and just got rubber bands in a few days ago, but my gums are now dark red and hurt. could i be allergic to the rubber bands ?

I have braces and I had the same problem when I got the rubber bands.
My orthodontist just said that since I just got them on, it could be a little irritated by them but that it'll get used to them.
Also, you should remember to floss your teeth everyday.
That was a big problem for me, because when I didn't my gums would get very red and inflamed.
So brush your teeth after every meal, floss every day, and just wait a while and it should get better.
