20 pounds would be a completely healthy and realistic goal for 17 weeks. The best way to figure a healthy weight loss is that you should strive to lose approx. 1 pound a week. However, another thing that you need to take into consideration is that you will need to be fitted for your dress and you need to make sure that if you continue losing weight there will be enough time to get your dress altered so that it fits you properly.
As far as losing weight is concerned, start making small changes and incorporating regular bits of short exercise into your daily routines. Slowly cut out bad for you foods, and soda and unneeded fats and sweets. By doing all of this you will slowly change your lifestyle into one that is signigicantly more healthy. The benefits of this will be that you will naturally lose weight at a healthy pace and since this isnt a diet, but more a lifestyle change, you will not have to worry about gaining the weight back so long as you continue your healthy habits.
Hope this helps, please feel free to contact me if theres anything else I can do.
