Q: i need to learn how to do a cartwheel, and a backhandspring~ A)because i think it would be really fun to learn how to do it and B)- because its the requirements for cheerleading squad...i didnt make it this year but im trying out next year.. i dont really want to go to a gymanstics place so im trying to teach myself and i pritned out some instructions online but i really need some step by step instructions (remember:im a beginner an im really afriad of getting hurt) i REALLY appreciate your help!!!
a kartwheel is pretty much foot, hand, hand, foot. to start u put out whatever leg you feel comfortable starting on (i am right handed but i put out my left). you point it out in front of you and then kind of push off of that leg. swing your arms down to the ground quickly one at a time. for example, if you start with your left foot, put your left hand down right away, then quickly follow with you right hand on the ground. once you are basically upside down, on your arms, with you feet in the air, its easy from there. when you start, you want to push of enough to get a lot of momentum, and then after both hands hit the ground, just kind of lean your body foward until one leg hits the ground on the opposite side of where you started from. once one hits, the other should immediately follow. then just bring you arms off the ground and you should be in a standing positon. as far as a back handspring goes, when you start out, you kind of sit, leaning back, to where if you kept sitting there you would fall back on you butt. as you are sitting you swing you arms back far and hard, then forward and up. once your arms are pointing up, straight, and above your head, (you should no longer be in a sitting position) throw you body backwards. an important thing it to watch you hands as your going the whole time. and make sure you keep your arms straight do not bend them too much. that is very important because without a spotter, you could fall on your head or neck. i am in cheerleading and we go to tumbling classes once a week. there are trampolines and mats so it is definitely safer. plus there are always people helping and spotting you. honestly the best thing i would suggest is to go to atleast an open gym, doesn't even have to be classes. find a place, just like a recreational center or something near you, that does those things. it shouldnt be too much money, its usually really cheap. also, if you start with a back bend (standing up and then falling back into a bridge) and the do a backbend walkover(once your in the bridge keep your arms straight and kick your legs over your head. after you master that, back handsprings will come a lot easier. kartwheels and backbends and walkovers are ok to do by yourself (i would suggest with mats atleast) but a back hand spring is dangerous if you dont know exactly what you are doing. it is kind of hard to explain it so if you really dont want to go to a gym, watch a you tube video with good step by step instructions. or even just go watch a video with back handsprings, but atleast always have somebody with you to help you with that, no matter what! you can be seriously injured if you do it wrong, and then never be able to make the cheer squad! once you get the hang of it though, it comes pretty easy, and it very fun. its frustrating to learn, but just dont get frustrated, be careful and have fun doing it! hope i helped..and sorry this is so long! :]

Although it was quite long...... it stil helped tons!!! thank you! you're a GREAT advice giver!
