does anyone know any good music sites that will name and describe all the different genres out there that exist? from glam rock to progressive to bluegrass to etc.

Well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_music_genres basically has every genre that you could think of. Hopefully that's what you were looking for.
