It means that a women has had sex for the first time and her hymen has now been broken. In most womens cases they bleed a little bit the first time they have sex but some don't.
Hymens can be broken even before you have sex by riding a horse, bike, doing gymnastics but the most common is sex. It is up to the individual woman to interperate whether or not she is still a virgin when the hymen is broken.
So getting your 'cherry' popped means the woman has had sex for the first time and she is no longer a virgin.
