about
I'm a vegan. I like glam rock and androgynous males. I have two cats. they're mystical beings. I'm going to college in less than a month.
advice
for almost everything my mom makes, she adds onions. i tell her all the time that i hate onions, and she says, "oh there won't be onions". sure enough, there are onions. she says "well they add flavor". and then i refuse to eat it because onions are gross. i used to pick them out but that gets too tedious.
what should i do?
really. onions rock if they're done right. they are terrible done wrong. be open to the food she cooks, but take some of the responsibility upon yourself. as someone who cooks for the family, I'll say that I cook what I want to eat and they absolutely have to put up with it. I try to be courteous and not make stuff normal people consider weird that I really really like if they're around. I almost never cook tofu even though it's one of my favorite foods. but if it's tofu one night then everyone has to eat the tofu. you cannot complain in my kitchen. my complaints about food landing me as the sole cook in the house. when I turned 17 I decided to go vegetarian which my family was initially very much against. so I cooked my own portions of everything which my parents quickly noticed was a whole lot better than what they were eating. now I'm a vegan and both my parents eat at least one vegan meal a day when I cook. my parents have acclimated and learned to accomodate me and their tastes. consider sitting your mom down like I initially did and asking her to consider your opinions and allow you to cook your own meals if she's going to use onions. cooking is not that difficult, but it's rather insulting to whoever cooked it to refuse food without tasting it even once. try to be in her position.
