about

I'm a vegan. I like glam rock and androgynous males. I have two cats. they're mystical beings. I'm going to college in less than a month.

advice

i have a problem with my weight. my mother works from 3pm-11pm, so that leaves dinner up to my dad. My dad can't cook. He can only barbeque, and make chicken cutlets...and pasta. So every night we either have something barbequed [like hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.] or pizza or fast food. I have high cholesteral and I'm supposed to be trying to get it down since it's very high, but I can't do it with the way my dad "cooks". I do have a treadmill and I try to run a mile whenever I can fit in, but I do have school and other activities so it's hard to exercise everyday. What could I do to help bring down my cholesteral and lose some weight [or gain some muscle, either way] when I have to eat this food? I'm 13 by the way, so I can't exactly cook myself.

you're 13. you can absolutely certainly cook completely for youself. As a clutzy 16-year-old who had never cooked ever I started cooking for myself. every single meal. I'd venture to say that you can cook anything you can put your mind to with simple simple materials. as for lowering your cholesterol, you can virtually reverse it (especially at young ages) by eating a vegan diet. no meat. no cheese. no milk. no ice cream (unless it's tofutti!). no cruelty. I live vegan and I love living. the book The Everyday Vegan is chock-full of delicious, one-pot recipes that are easy for teens and busy adults to make. then, by switching from white to whole wheat flour and brown rice you'll lose weight and feel healthier. there's no way, however, that you're going to lose weight or lower your cholesterol eating meat-based meals.
